A Slider for video, is a simple accessory: it is a track, built using a continuous guide or two separate tubes, on which a sled rests, which in turn serves as a support for the video camera or videoreflex .
With the video slider you can combine different movements, to give shape to countless shots.
The set of slide and rails forms a solid and smooth guide for the movement of the machine, which can be easily positioned from one point to another of the slider to obtain special frames.
A checklist for choosing the best slider
There are different types of sliders with different characteristics and prices.
Bearing video slider
It is preferable that the slider moves on bearings, other systems have not proved to be very effective so far.
The brake
It is important that the slider has a brake that keeps the trolley in position even when the guides are inclined and the natural movement would be the one suggested by the force of gravity.
The weight
Of important importance, before buying a slider for video, is the weight that can support.
If SLR or mirrorless are used this should be at least 1.5 kg.
The higher the weight the slider is able to support, the more it will weigh itself.
The guide
Slider chamber with two different types of guide are available: the integral one and the two-rail version.
The second type is generally lighter and therefore transportable, while the former protects the sliding channels better.
Points of support
The slider can have a central attack or two side attacks. In the second case the slider will be more stable, and a solution of this kind is particularly suitable for sliders longer than 80cm because it allows to avoid the bending of the track when the machine is positioned at one end of the slider.
